Key focus of the role:
The Business Solution Architect designs and documents business solutions that is based on the business blueprint. The Business Solution Architect will work with the business domain experts and business leadership to ensure that the business solution is fit for purpose from a business perspective while being transformative to ensure the future sustainability of our business. The focus of this role is on a specific facet of service, the business solution package. It is important that this facet functions effectively as part of the whole as well as independently, as a stand-alone solution which aligns to the overall business blueprint principles.
 
Role Description & Key Result Areas:
Specific Key Result Areas
  • Builds and manages a knowledge model to represent the business.
  • Co-ordinate business analysis efforts to ensure that the detailed business requirements align to the business architecture on Programmes.
  • Designs and documents business models, with the business owners, based on fundamental and common sense business concepts.
  • Designs the business in conjunction with the business owners based on the fundamental business concepts.
  • Develop the Business Conceptual Architecture into meaningful high-level business requirements.
  • Ensures effective communication.
  • Focusses on the technical and business feasibility of a solution and ensure that it fits within well-established patterns and guidelines laid down by the enterprise architects and solution practice architects.
  • Influences business strategy to be aligned with simple conceptual design.
  • Manages changes to the model to reflect business change.
  • Mentors Lead Business Analysts on a Programme.
  • Provides consulting services to business units.
  • Provides thought leadership.
  • Synthesizes and distils these business concepts into designs.
  • Takes responsibility for the quality, commercial compliance and technical integrity of the solution being delivered back into the business.
  • Translate requirements into a workable, integrated, sustainable Business Architecture solution.
  • Work with business needs to understand high level business requirements which form the basis for requesting technology capabilities.
  • Work with senior executives and senior management to bridge the gap between strategy development and Programme delivery while understanding the relationship between complex business components.
  • Works with IT and Solution Architects in implementing the model into IT Architecture and Solution Architecture designs.

  • Builds and manages a knowledge model to represent the business specific to the business solution while ensuring it aligns to the overall knowledge model.
  • Designs and documents business models, with the business owners, based on fundamental and common sense business concepts, using notation modelling.
  • Manages changes to the model to reflect business change.
  • Synthesizes and distils these designs into practical work packages.
 
GOVERNANCE & COMPLIANCE          
  • Ensures delivery fits within the guidelines and principles of the business blueprint laid down by the Enterprise Business Architects and is in compliance with the Business strategy.
  • Oversees the implementation of new solutions to ensure they adhere to the signed off business architecture blueprint designs.
  • Capture the tactical and strategic business goals that provide traceability through the organization and are mapped to metrics that provide ongoing governance.

SOLUTION DESIGN      
  • Contributes to the shaping and development of feasibility studies, concepts and business cases across the multiple geographies and lines of business under the guidance of an enterprise business architect.
  • Define the data elements shared between this business unit and other units in the enterprise and the relationships between those data elements and processes, people, systems, and other data elements.
  • Enumerate, analyze, and suggest improvements to the structural relationships of the business. This requires the creation and maintenance of an ongoing model of roles, capabilities and business units, the decomposition of those business units into subunits, and the interplay between these units in various business processes, materials, people, and systems.
  • The ability to assimilate and correlate disconnected documentation and drawings, and articulate their collective relevance to the organization and to high-priority business issues.
  • Works with IT and Solution Architects in implementing the model into IT Architecture and Solution Architecture designs.
 
STRATEGY        
  • Apply a structured business architecture approach and methodology for capturing the key views of the business unit in the context of the enterprise.
  • Models, defines and collaborates around designs with business and enterprise stakeholders.
  • Provides options and recommendations to business stakeholders to ensure that they can make the best business decisions based on the different solution alternatives and patterns.
  • The ability to act as liaison conveying information in suitably accurate models between the business unit and their counterparts within Information Technology. The scope of this information includes business requirements, data constraints, business rules, models of strategy and motivation, processes, accountabilities, and many other business and IT operational needs.
 
TEAM EFFECTIVENESS   
  • Individually accountable for customer/client service delivery through efforts of a team of business analysts on a Programme, for periods of 3 months up to a year.
  • Plans and assigns work over the applicable period.
  • Plans workload vs. work demand for a small team of business analysts on a Programme.
 
Role Qualifications:
  • Matric - exceptional matric results or a tertiary education.
  • 2 years’ experience in the business design area.
  • Business acumen and knowledge about business operations.
  • 5 years relevant industry working experience.
