Job Description

An experienced Linux admin who loves solving cool and challenging technical problems and working in a fast-paced highly technical environment, and cares a great deal about security and quality of your work, with a strong ability to troubleshoot and elegantly fix complex problems in a cool and calm manner.
You will assist and lead teams, involved with new and ongoing projects focusing on the maintenance and design of our security policies, networks, firewalls, applications and server deployments in both dedicated and virtualised environments.
You will also provide escalation support to our Support Desk and be involved in mentoring junior staff and sharing your extensive knowledge.
Minimum Requirements
  • Matric
  • Tertiary IT qualification or equivalent (RHCE a bonus)
  • 5 years of experience in managing complex Linux based IT environments
  • Own Transport and valid driver’s license

  • Install, configure and maintain CentOS 5/6/7 and RHEL 5/6/7
  • Solid understanding of general Linux server administration
  • Solid understanding of VMware
  • Understanding of other virtualization technologies (KVM)
  • Apache
  • Nginx
  • Squid
  • DNS (Bind)
  • MySQL
  • Basic understanding of CISCO networks
  • Understanding of Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies
  • Must be able to troubleshoot performance issues using tools like iostat, sar and vmstat
  • Solid understanding on TCP/IP networking in Linux environments
  • Knowledge of IPTables
  • Solid Scripting Experience (Perl, BASH)
  • Understanding of source code control (Git, SVN)
  • Open source NMS (Nagios)
  • Puppet knowledge
  • Capacity to work under pressure
  • Good customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and permanent problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated engineering skills discovering and implementing new technologies.
  • Ability to work after normal business hours and on weekends as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to pay attention to details and be organized.
  • Willing to do rotational standby shift
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment (same team and cross-functional teams)
  • Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deploying and configuring new dedicated and virtualized servers, with a focus on automation and security best practices.
  • Maintaining server availability to ensure clints’s uptime SLA’s are met.
  • Design, management and troubleshooting of live and staging environments for clients’s cloud software.
  • Liaising with 3rd Party software vendors in troubleshooting and ongoing maintenance of client’s cloud software.
  • The deployment and testing of application fixes and changes.
  • Participation in continual service and security improvements to our infrastructure.
  • Providing escalation support to client’s support desk and providing after-hours standby support as required.
