Job Description



1.1Duties & Responsibilities

At the following company there is an increasing need for formalising processes within IT because:
  • Well-defined processes result in better quality and customer service;
  • Information security plays an increasingly important role;
  • Formalised processes makes it easier to satisfy audits;
  • Formalised processes facilitate handovers when new staff join;
  • Its customers are asking for reassurance that processes achieve predictable and reliable outcomes.
Broadly speaking there are two areas that need further work:
  • Policies and procedures to deal with information security controls, many of which are of a technical nature, for example “Mobile device management policy”, “Wireless network access policy” and “Remote access policy”;
  • Procedures to do with batch processes, for example, balancing of debit order collections and premium rerates.
Therefore the main duty of this position is to document IT-internal processes.
The IT team already has a number of policies and processes in place. We estimate that it would take about six months to properly document the balance of processes. Therefore the position is for a six months contract only. After the initial six months period we expect that the processes can then be maintained and regularly reviewed by the companies permanent staff.

Afrikaans  Ability to understand Afrikaans will be helpful but is not essential (Attendance at meetings, communication from customers, documentation processed by the system)

2.1 Qualification & Education

Essential Requirements

Preferred qualifications

  • A completed tertiary qualification in IT-related fields
  • Additionally, certification in CISM, CRISC, ITIL, COBIT, ISO 27001 or similar

2.2 Work Experience

Essential Requirements

Preferred qualifications

  • Minimum two years experience in a similar role
  • Exposure to the financial services industry
  • Experience in the short-term insurance industry

2.3 Technical competencies

Essential Requirements

Preferred qualifications

  • In-depth understanding of the various phases of the software development life cycle;
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office;
  • Good understanding of information technology concepts including hardware, software, operations and networks;
  • Knowledge of information security principles, data privacy practices and laws;

2.4 Attributes

  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Keen attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing skills;
  • Positive attitude to sharing knowledge;
