Leadership (technical and people)
The Team Lead handles suites of large applications and software to make sure they are working together properly. Additionally, this person must come up with the overall vision an application or software title will fulfil, and then work with other information technology team members to execute a plan that turns that idea into a reality.
The Team Lead is not always involved in coding but often oversees developers and has a strong understanding of coding concepts. Furthermore, this individual has a well-developed business sense and can understand how a particular solution fits into the overall needs a company has. The Team Lead should be an excellent communicator; internal to the development teams and business units as well as external to clients.

Big Picture Thinking
An individual performing the role of a Team Lead should also focus on converting requirements into the architecture and design that ultimately constitute the blueprint for the solution. In that process, the team lead usually relies on design patterns from their previous engagements. In their efforts, the Team Lead balance architectural concerns of the projects with the concerns of the company. They are expected to provide motivation and guidance to the entire development team during the systems development life cycle. The Team Lead must ensure buy-in from the development team, so that the team is motivated to match the detailed design of the solution to the higher-level architecture.

 Research technologies and approaches critical to the architecture and development processes
 Invest time in learning/teaching development patterns to peers
 Data modelling and design

 Command respect via ideas, expertise, words, & actions.
 Overall responsibility for the operations and deliverables of the development function
 Provide technical guidance to the team
 Strategy development and implementation
 Implementation of software development best practices and tools
 System architecture design
 Team leadership and coaching
 Project resourcing

Qualifications
 Matric and relevant tertiary qualification required
 Role-related certifications advantageous (e.g. MCSE, MCSD)

Experience
 At least 6 years software development experience across full project life-cycle
 Experience and interest in leading teams and technology change
 Experience in Agile software development methodology

Technical skills
 ASP.NET web development using C# (including XML, CSS, AJAX, JavaScript, MVC)
 Experience in Visual Studio 2015 or later
 Object-oriented design and development
 Implementing architectural and software design patterns (SOA, Repository, Domain Modelling, etc.)
 Database development (DB design, stored procedures, MS SQL 2014)
 Experience with spatial data advantageous (Google Maps API, SQL spatial queries)
 Unit testing frameworks and effective unit tests

Non-technical skills

 Able to work well in a team as well as individually
