About the role

The Software Project Manager coordinates the technical implementation and maintenance of solutions developed using the company's platforms. The Software Project Manager plans and oversees the end-to-end project lifecycle from a technical perspective and ensures correct execution of all related processes, from resource estimation, through to implementation, QA, go-live and post go-live support.

The ideal candidate must have experience with agile development processes, be highly organised and result-oriented. The candidate must excel under pressure and strive to reduce complexity through well-defined, consistently-executed processes. The candidate must effectively and efficiently communicate with stakeholders across multiple teams to ensure successful project delivery and ongoing solution stability.

Description and responsibilities

1. Technical implementation management

  • Coordinate estimates from development team for project specifications
  • Run daily stand-ups, technical briefings and project meetings with implementation teams
  • Schedule and coordinate project quality assurance and defect resolution processes
  • Generate and monitor developer work plans and resource allocations based on scoped requirements and in line with implementation milestones, deliverables and resource budgets
  • Provide appropriate communication to internal and external stakeholders regarding implementation progress
  • Research, develop and enhance appropriate management tools, processes and methods
  • Run retrospectives and reviews to continually refine development processes

2. Technical operations management

  • Custodian of all solutions deployed to production
  • Perform routine monitoring, proactive maintenance, technical debt management
  • Technical documentation management
  • Triage, coordinate and manage communications regarding production issues
  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline support and reduce repetitive tasks for technical and support personnel
  • Manage project go-live from technical perspective

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field
  • 3 or more years of professional industry experience with software development, platform management and operations
  • Experience working with SQL and relational databases
  • Experience working within an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate across functional teams
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong project and people management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and evolving environment with significant complexity

Advantageous

  • 2 years or more experience leading or managing small technical teams with operational responsibilities
  • Honours degree (or higher) qualification
  • First-hand experience developing with web programming languages (C#, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, etc) and/or mobile programming languages (Java, Android development)
  • Experience working with NOSQL databases
  • Experience with testing frameworks and methodologies
  • Experience in the ICT4Development and/or Research sectors
