Purpose for the Job
The Senior SQL Server Database Administrator will perform database administration, maintenance, performance tuning, troubleshooting and manage security on multiple SQL Server environments within the group.
They will also perform project management tasks as needed to ensure all requirements are delivered on time, within budget and as per business requirements.  They will participate in, and may lead projects and ensure timely delivery.
They will work within a team to deliver solutions to our group. They will need to be able to deliver portions of a solution as well as an entire solution. It is expected that the DBA will be able to carry a conceptual design through to a fully functional system.

The Senior SQL Server Database Administrator will perform database administration, maintenance, performance tuning, troubleshooting and manage security on multiple SQL Server environments within the group.

What we will expect from the successful candidate: 
Perform database administration, maintenance, performance tuning, security, and troubleshooting.
Provide daily health check reports.
Respond to user & developer requests.
Develop, maintain, perform, and test database backup and recovery strategies and procedures.
Perform database installations, configurations, upgrades, and migrations.
Provide proactive performance monitoring, and capacity planning for future database and server growth.
Develop and maintain all required database documentation.
Apply best practices as per white papers supplied by the relevant software vendors.
Administer and maintain database and user security policies and standards.
Use security procedures to maintain a proper segregation of duty as defined by the Risk Manager.
Work closely and effectively and maintain good working relationships with data team members, software development team members, project management members, QA & UAT members, system admin teams and the IT leadership team.
Research and evaluate new databases trends and technologies and provide best practices and recommendations.
Support strategic decision making for group technology requirements.
Develop, evaluate, recommend and implement approved best practices for database and data warehouse models and architectural design.
Manage standards, strategies and documentation for security, database objects, backups, disaster recovery and business continuity.
Monitor capacity and performance and perform troubleshooting to proactively manage and resolve a wide variety of performance, stability and reliability issues. Establish and maintain standards, procedures and automation strategies for tools and monitoring.
Act as an advisor for the development team for group projects and ensure their timely delivery.
Participate and contribute towards the data team’s success and development.
Work with technical contacts from other teams or external partners on integration projects.
Mentor less experienced members of the team in technology and processes.
Keep abreast with latest developments in Database technologies and share knowledge with the team.
Ability to provide 24x7 DBA support both on-site and remotely whenever necessary
 
Qualifications and Competencies required
 
Qualifications:
 
Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in Microsoft SQL Server technologies with a minimum of 5 years in a DBA role, preferably having acquired the MCSE: Data Platform (Solutions Expert).
Bachelor’s Degree / NDip / BTech in Computer Science, Information Technology or Information Systems or similar and relevant 3-year qualification.
Fluent in English (speak / read / write).
Experience in working with a SQL Server clustered environment using blade technology and shared storage.
ITIL Foundation certification advantageous
Understanding of ITO and Managed Services, and the ability to manage enterprise level environments, whilst adhering to service level agreements and levels of reporting advantageous
Understanding of Project Management concepts advantageous
