Purpose of the role

The ideal candidate for this role will be responsible for the financial reconciliations of stock for the Group as well as the management of all stock and cost of sales related accounts

Key Performance Areas

Stock management

  • Ensure that all stock movements and stock related journals are timeously and accurately processed
  • Ensure accurate valuation of stock at month end
  • Accurate recording of stock-in-transit balances at month end
  • Perform regular reviews and updates of the forecast exchange rate and shipping cost estimates within the standard cost make-up
  • Provide accurate recording and release of price variance balances
  • Maintain master data for stock creditors on the accounting system
  • Review and approve requests for new stock creditors
  • Review and approve stock related payments
  • Ensure stock creditor balances are current and that they reflect correctly on the creditors age analysis
  • Ensure that prepaid stock balances are regularly reviewed and timeously cleared
  • Ensure stock creditors are timeously paid and appropriately allocated to stock creditor accounts

Cost of sales management

  • Ensure that all cost of sales transactions are timeously and accurately processed
  • Regular review of cost of sales margins
  • Ensure accurate calculation of provisions that affect cost of sales margins
  • Perform investigations of stock write-offs that affect the cost of sales margins
  • Ensure regular review of warehousing costs to ensure that stock holding costs are appropriately allocated
  • Perform regular reviews of fulfilment costs to ensure costs are accurately processed and appropriately recovered
  • Ensure that accruals for warehousing and fulfilment costs are appropriately raised

Reconciliations & reporting

  • Ensure monthly stock reconciliations are prepared for all stock and stock related balances
  • Perform monthly reasonability tests to ensure all stock balances are valid and complete
  • Prepare monthly stock leadsheets and audit schedules with commentary regarding large variances in stock balances
  • Perform monthly reasonability tests to ensure all cost of sales margins are valid and complete
  • Ensure reconciliations are up to date with explanations for variances and no long outstanding items
  • Liaise with external and internal auditors regarding any stock or cost of sales related deliverables or queries

Qualifications & Attributions

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • BCom Degree or National Diploma in Accounting

Experience & Skills

  • 2 to 3 years' experience in a Finance role or similar
  • Intermediate / Advanced level of Excel skills
  • Previous experience in a stock management role, preferably dealing with imported stock balances
