Job Description

This role leads and coordinates system specifications by outlining the system's functionality and delimiting the system. Assist in defining and reviewing requirements and use cases for the application

Discipline Specific Output / Task

  • Requirements
    • Requirements specification review
    • Collect information to analyse and evaluate existing or proposed systems
    • Analyse Non-Functional Requirements
    • Enhance the supplementary specifications
  • Design Specification

    • Translate business requirements into system requirement specifications.
    • Top down analysis of the newly defined business process by decomposing it into a set of services that can be choreographed into fulfilling the business requirement
    • Bottom-up analysis of existing assets for possible services that can be reused
    • Design the application user interfaces, classes, and components
    • Create UI prototypes
    • Logical system design (Independent of Technology) including Use Case Realisation Documentation and Logical Data Model
    • Complete all appropriate documentation required by the programmers, testers, deployment team, and application management team
    • Liaise with developers and business analyst to ensure that specifications are understood
    • Liaise with the IT Architects on matters of architectural application
    • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and connectivity problems, including user access and component configuration during application development and implementation
    • Ensure design methodologies are in line with standards & procedures
    • Select among authorized procedures and seek assistance when guidelines are inadequate, significant deviations are proposed, or when unanticipated problems arise
    • Work as a team member with other technical staff to ensure systems integrity and compatibility between systems
    • Ensure synergy between systems design and the business processes
    • Ensure that design is optimized for use on the organisations infrastructure
    • Perform change impact assessment to existing systems
    • Responsible for writing, storing and maintaining delivered systems documentation in central knowledge repository
    • Identification of potential risks / issues and give input into risk register and mitigation plan
  • Quality
    • Setting up of test cases to prove the specifications are delivered upon (System Integration Testing)
  • Planning
    • Assist with draft of software development plans
    • Assist with draft of iteration plan - scoping and estimation

Quality Assurance Component

  • Responsible with the business analyst for the ensuring that business specifications have been met by the systems design
  • Input into Quality Management Plan
  • Peer reviews of System Requirement Specifications
  • Assist with the design and setup of test cases and test plans
  • Ensure traceability of specifications and design
  • Participate in peer reviews
  • Maintain a repository of common system design patterns

Additional Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported
  • After-hours support according to standby schedule
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network and applications
  • Participate in changes according to the change control process

Minimuim Requirements



Qualifications and Experience
  • Certificate or Diploma in Systems Analysis from industry recognised training institution
  • 3 - 5 years working experience in Systems Analysis and Design
  • 1 -2 years User Experience Design and Prototyping experience
  • Experience in UML modelling, with experience with ARIS an advantage
  • Experience in the application of data analysis and data modelling techniques
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and practices an advantage
