Job Description


  • Technical excellence of Business Unit: 
  • Technical and business leadership and guidance 
  • Lead project teams for complex projects for Business Unit (BU) within the region 
  • Setting and maintaining high quality standards for design and delivery 
  • Planning and co-ordination of project (including resource planning) 
  • Providing technical review in area of expertise  
  • Project close-out and client review engagement 

Business Development: 

  • Generate new work/business through marketing, business development and client contact 
  • Maintain extensive solid contacts with existing clients to create repeat business 
  • Identify and pursue opportunities  
  • Active participation in company marketing and publicity functions 
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the market 
  • Assist with or manage bids as required 


  • Manage external sub-consultants in line with the company policies 
  • Exercise discretion line with business unit strategy and company policies 
  • Comply with QMS requirements  

Commercial Performance: 

  • Oversee financial performance of projects, identify problems and implement corrective procedures 
  • Manage WIP 
  • Control invoicing and manage debtors 

Human Capital: 

  • Review and evaluate technical work through regular feedback and company performance management processes 
  • Providing mentorship, on-the-job training and related development opportunities to staff 
  • Deepen technical competence through professional development  
  • Instil and uphold core values of professionalism, excellence and integrity 


  • Client/consultant contractual agreements (knowledge and application) 
  • Be aware of and mitigate against any commercial risk 


Qualifications and experience: 

  • Minimum of BSc Eng (Civil), an MSc or PhD will be advantageous
  • Pr Eng registered for at least 10 years  
  • Minimum of 15 years post graduate experience in design of water, sanitation, roads and stormwater infrastructure
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in similar management position with a minimum 10-15 subordinates
  • Experience in leading design teams, contract administration, management and project implementation
