Job Description

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
 

General

 
  • End –to –end testing of software, including testing of:
    • Frontend software
    • Backend software (including system host, middleware)
    • Reports
    • Financial reconciliation
  • Ensure that the test environment is set up with the requisite hardware and software to enable testing to take place
  • Analyse requirements, review specifications (business, functional and technical) prior to drawing up test cases (where a test plan has not been provided)
  • Identify issues in terms of functionality, performance or data integrity and ensure feedback to the test manager and development teams
  • Produce Test Cases (where a test plan has not been provided) – modular, integrated, volume and regression tests
  • Establish time frames to test the release
  • Create test data i.e. create new profiles, create batch files, etc
  • Execute test and update test cases with test results
  • Track and record errors picked up during testing
  • Categorise, prioritise and report all errors
  • Provide status to Test Manager, re-testing previously failed tests cases to verify fixes in a timely
  • Ensure the execution of test cases is correct and document the process if new functionality has been added. Test cases should always be updated when existing processes have been altered.
  • Maintain testing and training records
  • Monitor and track progresses of testing and turnaround time of bug fixes
  • Interact with developers to understand issues and replicate conditions causing the issues. Verify post development bug fixes
  • Run software for live testing. This includes:
    • Coordinating with operational teams
    • Monitoring testing
    • Reporting problems picked up during the pilot to the relevant departments
    • Provide feedback on pilots to management
  • Assist with Live Implementation/Role out of software:
    • Coordinate with operational teams
    • Monitor implementation
    • Report problems picked up during the implementation to relevant departments
    • Provide feedback on implementation to trouble shooting
  • Write and maintain User Guides for products tested
  • Give support to staff in the field in terms of software problems
  • Assist with user support specifically relating to trouble shooting
 
 
COMPETENCIES
 

Qualifications

 
  • Matric
  • Tertiary education in software related field (either a 3-year degree  computer science degree/equivalent diploma)
  • ISTQB Foundation certificate

 

 
 

Specific Skills (Technical):

 
  • 2-years experience in software testing
  • 2-years experience in web application testing
  • Related experience in banking industry advantageous
  • Proficiency in Microsoft packages: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Ability to assimilate and structure information into creative, stimulating, “user-friendly” formats
  • Strong numerical ability
  • C/C++, Java and Linux experience
  • Experience in ATM, POS, backend and banking advantageous
